A Grade II listed building that was initially earmarked to be a Wetherspoons pub has been put up for sale. The building, on St Mary's Street in Ely[1], is currently being marketed on property website Savills.
The property, which was once used as King's Ely boarding house, was hoped to be converted into a pub back in March 2021. However, the chain's plans were rejected by East Cambridgeshire[2] District Council over concerns it was too close to residential areas.
The venue is on the market at a price disclosed on application. The sale of the property follows on from a previous decision stating that double yellow lines could not be painted along the street outside.
Located within the Ely Conservation Area, the building is described as a three storey semi-detached building with a back garden area. There is also a car park with spaces for approximately 22 vehicles.
The ground floor has five former communal living rooms, two former kitchens and a bathroom. On the second floor, there are seven former dormitory tooms and another bathroom.
