Hammer-wielding gang turned up with angle grinder to steal motorbike

Police are hunting a hammer-wielding gang who used an angle grinder to try and steal a motorbike. But the gang were forced to abandon the Honda following the afternoon incident in Handforth after members of the public got involved.

Today Cheshire Police[1] has issued CCTV images of five people they want to speak in connection with the attempted robbery. The incident unfolded on a garage's car park on The Paddock at around 4.40pm on Monday (July 17).

One of the gang used an angle grinder to break the chain securing the Honda XL 25OS - while another blocked an exit door preventing the owner from stopping them.

However when challenged by the owner the men threatened him with hammers. However they then dumped the motorbike when members of the public intervened.

Detectives say an investigation is underway - and want to speak to the men in the CCTV released. Detective Constable Samantha Roberts, of Macclesfield[3] CID, said: "There are a number of enquiries underway and we are keen to locate those responsible.

“As part of our investigation, we are wanting to speak to the men in the CCTV images as we believe he may be able to help with our enquiries. If you recognise those responsible, please contact us.

“I would also like to appeal directly to the men in the CCTV images to get in touch."
