Long A55 delays caused by crash and weekend exodus

Motorists faced delays this afternoon after an accident in Flintshire on the A55[1] eastbound. Traffic built up in the Rhuallt Hill area at around 1pm.

Drivers were left frustrated as tailbacks grew. The volume of cars and lorries may have been swelled by the build up of traffic at the end of the weekend.

The traffic website Inrix reported that the accident had been near Junction 32 at Holywell[2] near A5026 at about 1pm. It is known how serious it was but neither the Welsh Ambulance Service nor North Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called out.

Nevertheless, traffic jams built up in the eastbound lanes of the A55 and it wasn't until two hours later at 3pm that Inrix stated that the accident had been cleared and that traffic was easing. A short time later flows were back to normal.
