The second model in the brand’s relaunched line-up, the #3 joins the smaller #1 that launched this summer as Smart continues its reinvention as an all-electric carmaker under joint Mercedes-Benz and Geely ownership.

First unveiled at Auto Shanghai earlier this year[1], the Volkswagen ID.5 rival adopts the ‘shark nose’ front-end, slimmed-down LED headlights and two-tone roof seen on the #1.

Five different versions will be on offer: starting with the entry-level Pro, followed by the Pro+, the limited-run 25th Anniversary Edition, luxury-focused Premium grade, and the performance-orientated Brabus version.

The Pro, Pro+ and Premium all features a single-motor set-up with a 272hp motor on the rear axle, giving a 0-62 time of 5.8 seconds. The Brabus gains another motor on the front axle, giving all-wheel drive, a combined 428hp and 3.7-second 0-62mph dash.

The Pro gets a 49kWh battery, giving a 202-mile range. The other models upgrade to a 66kWh. Pack, giving a 270-mile range for the Pro+, 258 for the Brabus and 283 for the Premium.

Equipment includes a 12.8-inch full HD infotainment display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and over-the-air updates, along with the Smart Pilot Assist package of driver assistance features, which includes a Highway Assistant and Automatic Parking Assist.

Prices start at £32,950 for the #3 Pro, £36,950 for the Pro+, £39,950 for the Premium, £40,950 for the limited-run 25th Anniversary Edition, and £45,450 for the Brabus.

David Browne, CEO of Smart UK, said: “The launch of the #3 reaffirms Smart’s commitment to providing the practical and enjoyable electric vehicles which modern buyers seek, at an accessible price point. Following in the footsteps of the critically acclaimed #1, the #3 adds another dimension to our award-winning line-up, which will continue to grow in the coming years as we look to help accelerate the UK’s transition to sustainable mobility.”

Smart has also published latest details of its carbon mitigation strategy. In October 2022, its production plant was awarded the first ‘Zero Carbon Factory’ certification among Chinese car manufacturers while the brand has committed to offering a climate-neutral electric vehicle model by 2045.
