Rare 1926 Steam Roller ‘Joan’ to star at Amberley Museum’s Steam …

One of the stars at 's special event on Saturday, 1st and Sunday, 2nd July will be the museum's 1926 Marshall Steam Roller Joan.[1]

For that weekend, visitors to the museum will be greeted by the sights, smells, and sounds of working steam engines as it is transformed into a world of steam, smiles and whistles, with some old favourites and different steam engines, including one that will be travelling to the museum from Gloucester.

At least ten full-size engines will be in attendance, as well as a number of miniature versions that will help younger visitors gain an insight of how steam engines work and look at them working in a pocket-size package.

One of the engines returning to action will be the 1926 Marshall Steam Roller, Joan, originally used by West [2] County Council.

The roller is one of the museum's resident engines but has been undergoing repairs for several years by a group of steam volunteers. It returned to steam in the latter part of last year and early 2023.

Among the attractions at the steam show for what promises to be a fantastic event will be rides in trailers behind steam engines, demonstrations throughout the weekend of wood sawing and steam engines of all shapes and sizes moving around the site.

Rides on a vintage bus will also be available, as well as on the museum's narrow-gauge railway.
